It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing after complications from a stroke, of Alexis Gaudet with his wife by his side at the Health Science Center in Winnipeg on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 76.
Alexis was born on December 14, 1948, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to Yvon and Marie Gaudet. One of thirteen children, he frequently told us stories of a wonderful childhood, often reminding us that they didn't have much, but hard work was a way of life.
Alex and Jeannette, were married on December 13, 1969, moved to Thompson, Manitoba on March 20, 1971, for work opportunity and lived here for 47 years raising their family before retiring at their cabin at Setting Lake, then Saskatoon, SK and then Winnipeg, MB. Alex was handy with many skills and built a family cabin from the ground up. His motto was "work before play". He enjoyed building the cabin where he took pleasure in past times of fishing, water skiing, cutting wood, snowmobiling and travelling with his family. He believed in hard work and made time for fun as well. Later in retirement they wintered in Yuma, Arizona until 2017. He enjoyed new hobbies of doing puzzles and reading. He built a career as a proud firefighter and EMT for 30 years with the City of Thompson and was always willing to help others at work and at home. With his days off he worked his small business as a maintenance man doing small jobs of carpentry, electrical and plumbing. He also did substitute teaching as he enjoyed educating and spending time with the younger generation. He truly was a Jack-of-all-trades.
Alex was kind and generous, made friends of all ages and from all walks of life. His friendships were many, long-lasting, and remained very important to him throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by his many lifelong friends, so many of whom remain an important part of our family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jeannette (Georget) Gaudet of 55 years and his two children, Eloria (Wayne) Marion and Colin (Alfonsina) Gaudet. Grandchildren Depreece (Brandan) Randell, Shailey Toporowsky, Gabrielle Gaudet and Isabelle Gaudet. Brothers Laurent (Armande) Gaudet, Cyrille (Paulette) Gaudet, Daniel (Carol) Gaudet. Sisters Therese (Raymond) Mathieu, Cecile (Jeremie) Mathieu, Madeleine (Ronald) Tessier, Blanche Lussier, Florence (Brian) Johnson. Brother-in-law Real Magnin and sister-in-laws Elise Gaudet and Jeanne d'Arc Gaudet. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, Yvon Gaudet, Marie (Gareau) Gaudet; his brothers Nicolas Gaudet, Arthur Gaudet, and Emile Gaudet; sister Lucie Magnin; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Gaudet and Lionel Lussier; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Alexandre and Albertine (Tessier) Georget; and nephews Gilles Magnin and Felix Mathieu.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the staff on the Health Science Center, Acute Stroke Unit, Winnipeg, MB for their compassionate care in his final days.
A celebration of Alexis' life is planned for August 24, 2025, to be held in Thompson, MB at the St. Lawrence Hall. Cremation entrusted to Transcona Cremation and Funeral Services , Winnipeg, MB.
