Ann Kyrzyk Obituary

On Friday, January 2nd, 2026, Ann Kyrzyk passed away peacefully at the age of 84. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Peter, with whom she shared 66 beautiful years of marriage.

Ann will be deeply missed by her five children and their spouses: Sally and Terry Jaworsky, Linda and Phil Paulicelli, Terry and Danica Kyrzyk, Randy and Kim Kyrzyk, and Wayne and Tannis Kyrzyk.

She was a proud Baba to Josh (Nadya), Dan (Cassandra), Taylor (Cody), Laura (Jody), Andrew, Reid, Kyle, Braeden, Ireland, Larkyn, and Erik (Hayley), and a cherished Babka to Jaxon, Vera, Leo, Carsynn, and Micah.

Ann is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Storoschuk, her brothers Walter (Jan) Chubey and Adam (Claudette) Chubey, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ann will be missed by many close friends, in particular her dearest friend, Debbie Arpin. She will also fondly be remembered by Sharon Kyrzyk (Peter Brouwer) and Murray Germain.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Helen Chubey, her brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Luba Chubey, her brother-in-law, Walter Storoschuk, nephew Gerald Chubey, and her beloved granddaughter, Leanne Germain.

Ann was born in the Rural Municipality of De Salaberry, Manitoba, and grew up in the Dufrost and St. Pierre-Jolys areas. In 1959, she met the love of her life, Peter. Within months, they knew they were meant to be together forever. They were married on October 10th, 1959, and together raised five children, completing the family Ann treasured above all else.

Family was the centre of Ann’s life. She was a devoted wife and mother whose attention was always focused on her loved ones. As her children married and welcomed families of their own, Ann’s heart grew fuller with the arrival of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Becoming a Baba, and later a Babka, brought her immense joy. She wanted to be part of every moment of their lives, creating memories she held close to her heart. They truly meant the world to her.

Ann had many talents and passions. She loved to cook, bake, knit, crochet, cross-stitch, and create crafts of all kinds. She knitted hundreds of washcloths, mittens, hats, scarves, and slippers.  She cross-stitched personalized Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren.  She made countless costumes for Peter, the kids, and herself at Halloween.  Every Easter, the counter was full of dyes and beeswax as she made hundreds of amazing Ukrainian Easter eggs.  There was nothing she couldn't make with her hands.

Baking was a daily joy, and her kitchen was always busy.  The Kyrzyk home was always open, and Ann could easily put together a meal for a dozen people using whatever she had on hand. And just when you thought the meal was over, she would bring snacks out from her well-stocked cupboard, in case you were still hungry.

Ann loved being surrounded by people. She enjoyed big gatherings birthdays, anniversaries, and family celebrations, believing the more, the merrier. She loved to talk, whether in person or on the phone, and she cherished every connection she made. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, painting, playing bingo, and playing games on her iPad.

Ann and Peter shared many adventures together, traveling to places they once only dreamed of visiting, including Hawaii, Ukraine, both the east and west coasts of Canada, and many trips to Edmonton, to visit Randy, Kim and their family. They also spent many happy summers camping throughout Manitoba and Ontario.

Ann worked various part-time jobs, including retail, catering, cooking in company cafeterias, and as a home care worker, always bringing her warmth and care to those around her.

Ann and Peter were devoted members of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Parish for approximately 55 years. Their faith and parish community were a vital part of their lives. Ann was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League until her passing and proudly served as President from 1975 to 1976.  During her time with the Women's League, she pinched thousands of perogies, rolled countless cabbage rolls, and helped with many catering events in the church hall.  She also loved her time with the St. Anne's Seniors Group, playing cards and socializing.

As Ann's health declined, she received care and support from many amazing home care team members. In particular, Jen, always a favourite, would enter the house calling out "Where's Momma?", much to Ann's delight.

Since May, Ann’s room at Holy Family Home was rarely empty. Family and friends visited from near and far, just the way she liked it. Not a day went by without company, phone calls, or shared laughter. The family sincerely thanks everyone who visited her and reached out during this time. Your presence meant more to her than words can express.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the nurses, health care aides, and staff at Holy Family Home for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Ann in her final months. What was called Compassion Care went far beyond that. Ann was treated with the utmost respect, kindness, and love. The extra hugs, conversations, and attention meant the world to her, and many of you truly became family.

A special thank you to all of the nurses, especially Oksana and Meagan, who kept her feeling strong. Thank you to all the health care aides, particularly  Marilou, for keeping an extra special eye on Mom and for holding a special place in Dad’s heart, Viola, lovingly nicknamed “Busy Bee,” for always being so quick to help, Katherine “Macaroni,” for filling Mom’s days with laughter; and Harold, for your extra care and beautiful singing that Mom so enjoyed. Thank you to Kelly for keeping her busy during the rare quiet moments. Even the cleaning staff became part of her extended family, and some affectionately called her “Mom.” As Ann often said, “We have angels all around us.”  Holy Family Home truly lives up to its name—it is all about family.

Perhaps most importantly, thank you to Father Walter Klimchuk, a resident at Holy Family Home and past priest at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church.  Father Walter provided continued spiritual guidance and friendship to Ann during her stay at Holy Family Home.  He was her personal guardian angel, offering prayer when Ann needed it most.  And true to Ann's spirit, she offered comfort and assistance to Father Walter as well.
