Anthony Kolodka Obituary

Unexpectedly, on Monday, September 8, at 12:34 am, Tony (Anthony) Kolodka passed away at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.

Tony was born at St. Boniface Hospital on March 23, 1961, and grew up in North Kildonan on Edison Avenue. Schooling began for Tony at Springfield Heights Elementary, followed by Chief Peguis Junior High and he graduated high school from River East Collegiate.

Tony was predeceased by his father Joseph; Mother Jean; brothers Tom (Ramona), Andrew; and sister Frances (Jim).

He is survived by his 8 remaining siblings: Ruth (John d.), Jenny, Judy, Kenneth (Alex), Peter (Gisèle), Stephen (Michelle), Marty (Andrea) and youngest sister Felicia. Tony also leaves behind many nieces/nephews and grand nieces/nephews.

A very special thank you goes to The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba for their support, patience and dedication towards Tony, especially to Brent Murphy and Mae Couture. Thank you to John Jongsma who, through the WCB, proctored with Tony, providing a warm and fostering relationship. The WCB was instrumental in helping Tony move forward, giving him the opportunity to purchase his own home on Ottawa Avenue, where he lived independently for 39 years until November 2024. We are also grateful to the St. Boniface Hospital McEwan Building Psychiatric Treatment Centre. Special thanks go out to Rachelle Holbrook and Janet Maleshko for their empathy and humanity in their involvement with Tony. Appreciation is also given to Bayshore Home Services (Shannon:), who in the past couple years was instrumental in helping Tony stay in his own home.

Tony had an off-beat sense of humour; he revelled in laughing at things that the ones closest to him knew about. Tony liked to play drums and enjoyed the sport of fishing; he was fortunate to experience numerous fly-in fishing trips with his brothers and close friends. Tony spent some time out on the golf course. Although only an average golfer, he holed out from the fairway quite often and was able to make freakishly long putts. Tony enjoyed the large family get togethers, we could always count on him to supply a deluxe jumbo shrimp ring for these events.

Tony will be missed by many.  We truly believe that Tony is in a better place, his physical suffering has ended. Tony's spirit has been freed to roam the infinite spiritual realm.

A private family remembrance will be held at a future (undetermined) time.
