It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christopher Lee James Schmidt, who passed away on March 18, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 58.
Chris was born on September 6, 1967, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his father, Peter Schmidt. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Evelyn Schmidt; his siblings Calvin (Denise), Gary (Laura) their daughter Chloe, Shelley, Tiffany (Mike) and their children Roger and Danielle; by his daughter Jessica Schmidt; and his cherished grandchildren Madden, Ella, and Charlotte. Chris also unknowingly had a fourth grandchild on the way, a baby boy who will be named Jett Xander James in his remembrance.
Chris will be remembered as the guy from Transcona who rocked the mullet well into his 30’s and blasted rock music while cruising around in his 1980 Z28 burnt orange Camaro — a colour his daughter never let him forget she disliked. It didn’t get much better when he later purchased a bright yellow Cavalier. Here’s hoping he found something better to drive around in up there in heaven.
Chris was a simple man, a little rough around the edges, but he had a big heart. He had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, and likely would have taken in every homeless cat if he could. The golf course was his paradise.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedics, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and Transcona Funeral Home for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Chris’s memory.
Hope you found the perfect ride and a peaceful fairway up there.
Fly high Dad, or as Roger says “tee it high and let the mullet fly”. Until we meet again.
