In Loving Memory of "The Reverend"
With heavy hearts, we share the sudden passing of David Baxter on July 28th, 2025, at the age of 77, following a heart attack. Born May 29th, 1948, in Dauphin MB.
David’s home and acreage were always open to friends and family, filled with the warmth of big meals, laughter, and the steady glow of a campfire. He cherished time spent camping, shooting pool, and gathering together—turning ordinary Sundays into special memories with cruises in the city or trips for ice cream with the kids. Known for his tall tales and quick wit, David found joy in telling stories, especially to young people, always offering wisdom, humor, and a listening ear.
He was a passionate wrestling fan, also a master at cribbage—nearly impossible to beat—and always up for a game. His love for animals was unmatched; dogs were his constant companions and confidants, ever-present by his side.
Professionally, David ran his own painting and contracting business for over 20 years, earning the respect and trust of countless clients. In recent years, he found new purpose revitalizing Subway restaurants.
To his friends, he was “The Reverend,” a nickname that reflected his spiritual wisdom, guidance, and the comfort he freely gave. David was a father figure to many—forever ready with gentle advice, practical help, and unconditional support.
David’s journey in love began with his first marriage to Gloria Klem, and later, he found his soulmate in Patricia Leigh McLeod. Together, they shared a partnership full of affection, understanding, and deep joy.
He leaves behind his sisters Ethel, Doris, and Shelly; brothers Randy, Alan, Arnold, and Donald; daughter Sarah; sons Richard and Shane; and grandchildren Tyler, Kieran, Robbie, Evan, Sadie, and Ava.
David was predeceased by his wife Patrica McLeod; parents Norman and Myrtle Baxter; and brothers Clark and Dwayne.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday September 6th, 2025, at the Rockwood Legion, where everyone who knew, him is invited to gather, share memories, and find comfort in each other. There will also be a celebration of music and fire gathering after the celebration of life in Anola after 6pm. In lieu of flowers, David’s family encourages you to remember him by sharing a meal with loved ones, telling a good story, or taking someone out for ice cream on a Sunday.
Rest well, David Baxter—our friend, master storyteller, and “The Reverend.” You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, always.
