Edward Frank Winston Deering, affectionately known as Ted to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in his hometown of Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 83. Born on January 2, 1941, Ted's life was marked by his unwavering kindness, friendly demeanor, and a deep commitment to his loved ones and community.
Ted's journey began in Winnipeg, where he was raised and later pursued his education. A proud student of Miles Macdonell Collegiate, he continued his studies at Red River College, where he honed his skills in Business Administration. This foundation paved the way for a successful career in the purchasing field, which saw him work in various capacities in Pinawa, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. Ted's dedication and expertise culminated in his role as the purchasing manager at the University of Manitoba, a position he held with distinction until his retirement.
Family was the cornerstone of Ted's life. He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Laraine, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Colleen and Glenn (Susan). Ted's joy was multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Mike, Danielle, Chris, and Jordan, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness. He is also survived by his sister Peggy (Wayne), and his nieces and nephews Geoff, Stacy, Dan, Laura, and Cheryl. Ted was predeceased by his brother Laurence (Judy), yet his memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Beyond his professional achievements and family life, Ted had a passion for a variety of interests that enriched his life and the lives of others. In his younger years, Ted enjoyed bowling, curling and coaching baseball. Later in life, he took joy in dancing, woodworking, whittling, HO scale trains, and golfing. His talents and hobbies brought joy not only to himself but also to his friends and fellow enthusiasts.
Ted's presence was a gift to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kind and friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community. He approached life with a gentle spirit and a warm smile that could light up any room. Ted's ability to connect with people on a genuine level was one of his most treasured qualities.
As we bid farewell to Ted, we reflect on a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and meaningful connections. His impact on our lives is immeasurable, and his memory will be cherished forever. Ted's story is not one of sorrow but a celebration of a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
We take comfort in knowing that Ted's legacy will continue through the lives of his family and the countless memories shared with friends. His spirit will remain a guiding light, inspiring us to live with the same kindness and warmth that he so effortlessly embodied.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
