Gerrie MacCannell Obituary

Gerrie Lee MacCannell, 71, of Summerland, BC, passed away after a short illness on December 10th, 2025, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

Gerrie was born on June 24, 1954, in Hamilton, Ontario. She was the daughter of Mae and Wallace MacCannell and was also cared for by Ken and Betty Dunsworth, after her parents’ passing.

Gerrie attended Central School in the major works program, graduated from Transcona Collegiate Institute and completed the Nursing program at Red River College. She may be remembered by some, from her time at the Oak Barrell in Oakbank, MB. Later in life, Gerrie transitioned to an accounting role at Jim Pattison Sign Group. This job led to her move to Summerland, BC where she met her soul mate, Neil, and made many friends over the past 22 years.

Gerrie loved life. She was adventurous and enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family on the lake, on the road, or in the garden. Gerrie was known for her trademark blue eyes and smile.

Gerrie is survived by her husband, Neil Hamilton and her son Michael (Carol) Martel, granddaughters Hailey (Zac), Jenessa and daughter Jeanine (Darryl) Enns, granddaughters Abby, Myah. She also leaves behind Neil’s children; Kris (Brandy) Hamilton, grandchildren Kaylee, Wyatt, Brooklyn and Jay (Tricia) Hamilton, grandchildren Ellie, Norah, Cameron. She is survived by her sisters, Billie and Deane.

Gerrie will be forever missed by her family, friends, and all of those who were lucky to have known her. We find comfort knowing Gerrie has now rejoined her lifelong best friends, Cece and Laurel.

A celebration of life will be held in the Spring, in both Winnipeg and BC.
