With much sadness we announce the passing of Gordon Thomas Kendall, peacefully with family by his side, on July 20, 2024. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Kathy, and children Tim (Jessie), Trevor (Crystal), and Julie Cornwell (Patrick), as well as grandsons Nate, Drew, and James, sisters Peg and Sylvia, father-in-law Peter Bohonos, sisters-in-law Joan (Reg), Donna (Laurry), brother-in-law Peter (Sherry) and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gord was predeceased by his parents Howard and Katherine Kendall (nee Lincoln), mother-in-law Pat Bohonos (nee Kolton), and brothers-in-law Bob McKay and Rod Johnson.
Gord was born on September 7, 1952, and grew up in several places including Winnipeg, Norway House and Ottawa, then first worked as a radar operator at the DEW line in the Arctic. Summer vacations at the cottage at Ingolf were a constant. Gord met Kathy at Red River College and asked her on a date just in time before she graduated; they married in 1977. He worked as an electronic technician for Burroughs, Unisys, and Vansco, traveling as far as the Netherlands and Colombia. In his forties he changed careers to teach high school electronics and electrical in Brandon and Steinbach. As a young man Gord enjoyed hobbies such as model trains, motorcycles, and computers; later on, he puttered with guitars, amplifiers, pen-making and leather-working. In his later years he worked at Rona and Labels Unlimited, built the cottage at Belair, and also learned and taught tai chi.
Per his wishes, no funeral service is planned. The family will celebrate his life at a later date.
Donations in Gord's memory can be made to CancerCare. We are grateful for the care he received from the staff at Concordia and HSC.
