Harold Stoesz Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold Stoesz, who left us peacefully on January 7, 2025 after a short battle with cancer.

Harold leaves behind Mona, his wife of 50 years, his two sons Colin (Christine) and Adam (Cristine), his granddaughter Gabby, his sister Rosella, as well as countless wonderful friends and family. Harold was predeceased by his parents Peter and Eva, as well as his two brothers Rick and Rod.

Harold’s life began in Altona, MB where he enjoyed spending time at various aunts’ and uncles’ farms, participating in all the farm activities. From an early age, he showed signs of being a budding businessman and entrepreneur. One of his first jobs was a Regal representative at the young age of 14. Harold was always looking for ways to double his money with fierce determination. He even volunteered for some of the more unsavory household chores to collect allowance to put towards his next venture.

Harold met Mona at a social gathering in 1971 and married in 1974. They first resided in Letelier, MB, and later they moved to St. Adolphe where they raised their two boys. Eventually, they moved to reside long-term in Winnipeg, MB.

In 1977, Harold started his very own manufacturing business. Award Marble is his legacy, and he worked tirelessly, building his business year after year. Even through his illness, he continued to work until November 2024. He was thoroughly devoted to the success of Award Marble.

Harold loved to travel and explore new places. Some of Harold and Mona's travels had them exploring Costa Rica, Turkey, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba and many other beautiful locations. He had a gift for conversation, and never failed to make new friends wherever he went.

Harold loved his cottage in Beaconia Beach, MB. He would go year-round and invite friends and family to go quadding and share a meal. At Harold and Mona’s cottage, the door was never closed; loved ones were always welcome to pop by.

Over the years Harold enjoyed reading, curling, golfing, Blue Bombers games, breakfasts with "the boys", watching his granddaughter play volleyball, and working on home projects with friends and family. Harold was always the guy to call for expert advice on how to build something, and he was always happy to lend a hand. The only payment he would accept was a nice cold beer.

"The deeds you do for yourself are gone when you pass away, but the deeds you do for others remain as your legacy". This phrase sums up Harold's life. He was endlessly giving of his time and will be remembered and celebrated in every door he helped fix, every deck he helped build, and every corner of the homes where he pitched in on renovations.

Thank you to all the devoted friends and family for being there and supporting Harold and our family through this challenging time. We know Harold appreciated all your visits.

Also, thank you to Harold's doctors, the staff at HSC and Riverview Health Centre.

Harold, you will be missed by so many. Life will not be the same without you. Rest in Peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
