With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jacob Tschetter on March 20 at 4 p.m., after a short battle with pneumonia.
Jacob leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years, Rebecca; his children and their families: Jacob (Sheila): Tia (Cody Reidiger) and son Rory, Amber (Chase Sveinson); Shirley (Theodore Hofer): Reagan and Aidan; Wilma (Dan Wolfe): Alyssa (Larry Hilderbrand) and son Jackson, Aaron (Cassandra), and their expected child, Alexander; Christine (Gregory Sass): Everett (Mikaela), April (Mathew Hendricks); Eileen (Eric Loepp): Elias (Katie), Marcus (Dayna); Edwin (Donna): Taylor; Brian (Rachelle): Cole, Hyden, Drew; Harvey (Natalie).
Sisters: Marion (John Hofer), Sarah (Harry Hofer), Anna (Jacob Waldner), Margaret, Leah, and Betty. Brothers: Samuel (Anna), Jonathan-Hank, Johnny (Rebecca), Joseph (Linda), and sister-in-law Rebecca (Michael). Along with many nieces and nephews.
Dad was predeceased by his infant son, Simon; infant granddaughter, Nyah Hofer; his parents, Jacob and Mary (Wipf); two infant sisters, both named Rebecca; his brothers, Michael (Rebecca) and Harold; sisters-in-law, Helen (johnny) and Elizabeth (Jonathan-Hank); and bother-in-law Timotheus Hofer (Betty).
Dad was a hard-working man who was not afraid of challenges. Together with his wife, he left the Oak Ridge Colony with his six kids and expected twins, moving to Winnipeg and working multiple jobs before settling into a career in drywalling. Dad’s faith was strong and, despite his grueling work schedule and taking care of his family, he always found time to attend church and keep his connection with God strong. He was a soft-spoken man with few words, so when he spoke, we all listened. Dad had a strong work ethic that we all admired and learned from.
Daddy never was the Cadillac Kind
He said some things just glitter and shine
He taught us that love was the one thing money couldn’t buy
Written by Bernie Nelson and Dave Gibson for Confederate Railroad
I remember daddy’s hands folded silently in Prayer.
You could read quite a story in the callous and lines. Years of work had left their marks behind.
I remember daddy’s hands workin’ ‘till they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly just to keep us fed
There are things that I’d forgotten that I loved about the man. But I’ll always remember the love in daddy’s hands.
Written by Holly Dunn
Rest in peace, Dad you will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on April 10th 2026, at 2:00pm, in the Grace Communion, 50 Barnes Street Winnipeg MB.
