Jannelle Leah (Sansom) Wiens

Jannelle Leah Wiens (née Janice Leah Sansom), born 09 May 1963, passed away on 29 January 2025 at the age of 61. She is survived by her husband Jacob Wiens; her sons Matt Martin (Christina Barton) and James Martin (Angela Schume); honorary daughter Amber; grandchildren Félix and Sawyer; and brother Doug. She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Isabel Sansom (née Borthwick),; sister Terry; and her brother Thom.

Jan was born in Winnipeg and lived there all her life. She went to River East Collegiate, and in 1982 married Kevin Martin, with whom she had two boys in 1983 and 1985. In 2001, she married Jacob Wiens, with whom she shared many adventures on the road. The couple loved their animals, and the house always had at least one cat or dog. In 2015, her first grandchild Félix was born.

Jan worked most of her life as an administrative assistant at Health Sciences Centre, starting in nephrology and ending out her career at the Child Protection Centre. Family, friends, and coworkers all appreciated her smile, sense of humour and style.

In late 2024, Jan was diagnosed with heart failure and had a stroke in December. She recovered from that well enough to spend Christmas dinner with the family, which she greatly enjoyed. Her decline in January was faster than anyone expected, and she passed in her sleep after a day of visits by family. She will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 7th, 2025 at 12:00pm in River East Church 755 McLeod Avenue.  Refreshments will be served afterward.
