Linda Rae Ducharme (née Small), born December 2nd, 1950, passed away peacefully Monday morning on March 17th, 2025, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family.
Linda joins her father, William (Bill); and mother, Ina; as well as her siblings, Gary (Bea), Willie (Mike), and Jerri.
Linda leaves behind her loving husband of over 50 years, Claude; and her devoted son, Stefan (Megan). She also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, and dear friends, all of whom were treated as family.
Born in Dauphin, Linda surrounded herself with a close-knit circle of friends. She liked long drives with her family, exploring, camping, and reading on lazy afternoons. Linda was a Jill of many trades, picking up work that eventually brought her to Winnipeg. From working on the base in Shiloh to hairdressing and office administration, she ultimately settled into working in Insurance. One of these jobs led her to make a new friend, Denise, who would later become her sister-in-law.
The story of how Linda and Claude met is told countless times over the years. They loved each other so much that they got married twice, resulting in two anniversaries (although Linda always joked that she had a very special place in her heart for Elvis). Over the years, they travelled across Canada and Europe and, later in life, were blessed with a son, Stefan. Her love and devotion for her son were apparent, and she always expressed her unwavering and unending support for him and his interests.
Linda loved hosting, cooking, providing food, comfort, and her undivided attention, even in their tiny houses with standing room only. She loved having long talks and reminiscing, her memory so sharp and accurate that it rivalled any ancestry website. Linda was a second mom to many; her nieces, nephews, and family friends always commented on how special Linda made them feel.
Linda was an incredibly loving and selfless person. She was always understanding and made sure she never inconvenienced anyone, even to the very end.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to Cancer Care or the Stroke Foundation or provide seeds and plant able flowers for a garden in Linda’s honour.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer, TBA.
