Margaret Uhrich Obituary

Margaret Amy Uhrich died peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on July 18, 2025, at the age of 81. Born at the same hospital, she spent her final weeks bravely facing advanced medullary thyroid carcinoma.

Predeceased by her husband Jim—with whom she shared a lifelong love beginning at age 14—and by her parents, William and Alma Olive, Margaret is survived by her children, Brian (Winnipeg) and Alanna (California); her sister, Valerie Boddis; her niece, Kerri Bebak; and many cherished cousins and extended family.

Margaret was raised in Transcona and spent her youth babysitting cousins and dating Jim. She worked as a switchboard operator and secretary at Ogilvy Flour, Monarch Life, and Westminster United Church. After moving to Calgary with Jim, she worked in the registrar’s office at Mount Royal University. Later, while living in Ontario, she briefly worked at a church in Peterborough before settling in Ottawa for many years. In 2023, she returned home to Winnipeg. No matter where she lived, Margaret built a life of meaningful relationships and heartfelt connections.

She had a special gift for seeing the world through other people’s eyes. Margaret brought gentle kindness, an easy laugh, and deeply grounded humility to every conversation. She was a devoted member of the United Church, an avid reader, and the planner of unforgettable family road trips. Known for her great hair, sense of humour, and wonder in the everyday, she approached life with warmth, humility, and a deep care for justice and others.

A memorial service will be held at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave W, Winnipeg on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 am.

The family extends sincere thanks to Jennifer and Ella at Primary Care Staffing, Jeff, Elmira, and Sharon at Amber Meadow, and the 6th floor staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care.

Margaret donated to Doctors Without Borders for many years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory—and do something kind for someone else. Margaret would have liked that.
