Renee Mercredi Obituary

Renee Marcella Mercredi passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg with her niece, Melody Dumas by her side.

Renee is survived by her brother Randy Nabess (Sonia); her sister Velvet Lavallee (Roy); her auntie Stella Lavallee; grandchildren, Warren and Dannica; and many nieces and nephews.

Renee was predeceased by her husband Louis; sons Darryl and Conrad Mallett; mother Irene Nabess; Father Marcel Lavallee; grandparents Pat and Marie Nabess; brothers Robert Bignell and Ernest (Poshe) Lavallee; sister-in-law Marie (Jazz) Lavallee; and nephew Billy Ray Roy.

Renee was born in Winnipeg on September 14, 1951. During her life, she lived in Thicket Portage, Cormorant, The Pas, Winnipeg, Wabowden, and Thompson. Renee enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She loved fishing in Cormorant and spending time with loved ones. One thing Renee took pride in was her appearance.

Renee had health issues during her lifetime. She was a very strong resilient person who was a fighter. She showed this as she dealt with different medical situations throughout her life. When she had a triple bypass surgery she fought hard to recover. During this time, she was cared for by her longtime friend Cynthia, her brother Ernest, friend Darlene, and her sister Velvet.

Most recently she had been fighting renal failure, requiring her to take dialysis regularly. When this began, she moved to Winnipeg to live with her long-time friend (54 years) Margaret (Maggie) Thibault and family. Maggie took Renee into her home and together they looked out for one another.

On January 11, Renee had hip surgery due to a fall a few days before. Unfortunately, her heart could not handle the stress of the operation. Renee fought right up to the last hour of her life. It was in the last hour she said she could not do it anymore, stating she wanted to go home. Her loved ones who passed away came for her at 10:50 PM on January 11, 2025, and guided her to the spirit world.

In keeping with Renee’s wishes, Cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal funeral service. The family is planning a Celebration of Life. This will take place in Wabowden in May 2025.

The family would like to thank the staff at the SICU for the care and compassion they showed Renee.

She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
