It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Rhonda Lee Huziak, 49, of Winnipeg, who passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, after a sudden and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 19, 1976, Rhonda built a life defined by kindness, humour, honesty, generosity, and independence. She spent 21 years with the River East Transcona School Division, where she was known for making everyone feel seen, respected, and welcome. Wherever she went, she made lifelong friends.
Rhonda lived a quiet and private life filled with love, humour, music, and meaningful connection. She had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and welcome in her presence.
Rhonda cared about her community and shopped local. She would take care to get to know those who worked and lived in her community.
She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Adeline — her best friend and greatest influence; her cherished dog, Charlie, her constant companion; and in 2024, the love of her life, her partner Shaunie. Their bond was one of the great constants in her life, and those who loved her take comfort in knowing they are together again.
Rhonda shared a devoted bond and friendship with her father, John, affectionately known as “Daddio,” who stood by her throughout her life, right to the very end. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother Sheldon (Susan); her niece Mercedez; her nephew Braxton; as well as her extended Saskatchewan family and roots. Rhonda also leaves behind many dear friends she made throughout her life — people she connected with wherever she went, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Proudly Ukrainian, Rhonda lived authentically and unapologetically. She built a life rich in friendship, routine, and simple joys. She loved being outside, tending to her garden — especially her tomatoes — and spending time in her backyard gazebo, where laughter came easily and memories were made. She had a gift for turning ordinary moments into something unforgettable, often with a perfectly timed joke and just the right amount of mischief. Rhonda wore her heart on her sleeve and was never afraid to say how much she loved the people she cherished.
In her final days, Rhonda was surrounded by love. Though many friends were unable to visit due to the rapid progression of her illness. She knew how loved she was. Even at the end, she remained herself — cracking jokes and making those around her laugh.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A gathering to celebrate her life may be held at a later date, with details to be shared when available.
Thank you goes out all the staff at HSC, that looked after Rhonda. She received the best care and compassion.
Rest now, Rhonda.
You were deeply loved, and you will be forever missed.
Bye for now.
