Stepdaughters Dana (John) and Bobbi (Brent), Grandchildren Adam and Ashley. His sisters Gayle (Roy), Joan (Paul), Christine (Mel), Joan (Paul), Judy (Tom) and Nancy (Kim), Brother Rod and Larry (Vicki), Sister in Laws Cathy and Kim, In-laws Billy (Sharon), Shirley, Terry (Dianne), Betty (Dennis) and Debbie (Bill).
He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Robert is predeceased by his parents Quintin and Beryl, Brothers Gerry and Allan, In-laws David and Norma Emslie and his puppy Toby.
Bob was born in 1950 in Winnipeg and grew up in Transcona along with his large family. His parents had a total of 10 children, and a large portion of the family still residing in Transcona.
Bob was hardworking, providing for his family working in the maintenance field and had his 4th class power engineering certificate. He worked at multiple personal care homes as the Maintenance guy and the residents just loved him there. He continued to work until he was close to 72 and ending his career at Fort Garry Community Center. He touched many people over the years that still remember him to this day and talk about how hard working and caring he was.
For over 40 years, he volunteered at Lord Roberts Community Center. He held many different board positions, including being Presidents for many years. He was very passionate about these roles and always ensuring he was doing his best to bring more programs to the club to support the families in the area. He loved being there and pushing for what he could over the years. He was the “ice man” at the club helping make the ice for around 20 years. He was a perfectionist when came to this. Always wanting to make sure it was as perfect as possible for everyone to enjoy. He touched so many people just by being him but also mentoring new members. He was really someone that you never forgot.
He also loved part of the sports programs. Would help coach the kids teams over the years (baseball, soccer and hockey). He also volunteered and was a board member for the Fort Garry/Fort Rouge Hockey association. He spent a lot of time watching the kids games and just being a known face within the hockey programs in the city. He made a lot of friends and had the same goal to help make the programs as good as possible for the kids.
Since his diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia, it’s been tough to watch him struggle. He went down hill quickly in the last year and had to be moved to a care home to be taken care of 24/7. We will miss him but truly thankful he is no longer suffering and now at peace.
Want to Thank the staff at Charleswood Care Center for caring for him over the past 6 months.
In honor of Bob, donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba to help continue the research and finding a cure Dementia/Alzheimer’s.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday September 21st from 1-4pm at Lord Roberts Community Center, 725 Kylemore Ave.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things have passed away”
