Ronald Walter Solkoski

On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Ron Solkoski passed away at the age of 78.  He was predeceased by his parents.

Ron was born July 18, 1947.  He grew up in the Transcona area and attended Murdoch MacKay Collegiate.  While attending school, he showed a keen interest in the arts and history.  His work under the guidance of Tony Tascona, teacher and prominent Manitoba artist, earned him awards in school, including his design of the Murdoch MacKay Collegiate logo.

Following his high school graduation, Ron moved to Alberta to work in the geology and paleontology departments at the Alberta Natural History museum. He also did taxidermy for natural history displays.

In 1984, Ron moved back to Winnipeg where he opened his own restoration shop, Museum Quality Restorations, where he could apply his experience to restore art and antiques for his customers.

Ron remained a bachelor throughout his life and cultivated a great many long-term friendships with neighbors, people he met, and members of the art community. He focused on painting, mostly creating abstracts and sculptures.  He had a great love of all animals large and small, even spending time trying to save ladybugs in the fall.  He left behind his three cherished cats, Taco, Bob and Martin, who are missing him.  Ron was also a devoted reader with a large collection of books on many different topics. He was an avid gardener and composted organic waste long before it was even considered by the city as a program to invest in.

You are invited to an informal come and go service to allow all who knew him to pay their respects to Ron at Transcona Cremation and Funeral Services at #3-549 Regent Avenue West on February 7, 2026, from 1-3pm

In lieu of flowers, if anyone so wishes, please make a donation in Ron's name to either the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

Rest in peace Ron. You will always be remembered.
