With her loved ones by her side, Sharon passed away on August 17th following a fast yet fierce battle with cancer.
Born on September 29, 1944, in Swan River, MB, Sharon was the fourth of eight children to her loving parents, Len and May Cooper. She began her schooling in Bowsman, MB, before the family moved to Cranberry Portage. She cherished her childhood years and shared an especially close bond with her sister, Pix.
In 1962, Sharon married Terry Mosiondz. Together, they raised three beautiful children while living in Birch River, Thompson, Benito, and eventually Swan River. Although they later separated, they always shared a deep love for their family and, over time, built a strong friendship. Sharon’s devotion to Terry never wavered—she cared for him through his illness until his passing.
Caring for others came naturally to Sharon, and she built her career doing just that. She worked as a Health Care Aide at Swan Valley Hospital until her retirement in 2011. Beyond her work, she volunteered with the Association for Community Living, with highlights including annual trips to Winnipeg with Donna, Elsie, and Rose, where they enjoyed Rainbow Stage productions and outings on the Paddle Wheel Queen.
Sharon had an incredible gift for connecting with people. Whether walking in her neighborhood, shopping for groceries, or visiting her favorite store, Giant Tiger, she made friends easily and left a lasting impression. She loved chatting with neighbours, learning about their families, and turning strangers into friends. Her presence could instantly lift anyone’s spirits—she had a way of making people feel special, loved, and truly valued. Her youthful energy and zest for life brought joy and laughter wherever she went, and right up until her final months, she could outwork most people half her age.
To her family and friends, Sharon was known by many names: Punky, Mom, Grandma, Grammy, Ma, Grandmama, Mimi, Great Grammy, and Punky G. No matter the title, she was deeply loved. She supported her family wholeheartedly, attending school events, dance recitals, and cheering proudly from the sidelines. Her baking was legendary—especially her butter tarts, lemon pie, and fudge—while her porcupine meatballs were always a family favorite.
In recent years, Sharon enjoyed traveling to some of her bucket-list destinations. A Las Vegas getaway with Shanlee, Jayda, Jessa, and Brad to attend a country music festival; a girls’ trip to Nashville with Shanlee and Jessa, where she danced for hours in her denim and fringe to live country music—a trip she treasured; and a journey to Newfoundland with Shanlee, where they soaked up local hospitality, seafood, cold beer, and, of course, more live music. Sharon’s love for country music was undeniable—she was the life of every party, a lively dancer, and a spirited soul. And while few could share her passion for Lucky beer, it was just one more thing that made her uniquely Sharon.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Johnny, Carmen, and Bobby; her sisters Louella and Janet; as well as her former husband and lifelong friend, Terry Mosiondz.
She leaves behind her cherished siblings Pixie (Eric) and Norwood; her children Angela (Harvey), Shanlee, and Shawn (Heather); grandchildren Jonathan (Dez), Javan (Rachel), Jessa (Brad), Jayda, Madison, Gavin, Phoenix, Zoe, and Ember; and great-grandchildren Eliana, Talia, Ily, Chloe, Oaklan, Theo, Jack, Tommy, Bruce, Benny, and Briggs Cooper (lovingly named after his very special Great Grammy). She will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Concordia Hospital staff for the compassionate care and kindness they provided to Sharon in her final days.
In keeping with her wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, our family encourages loved ones to honor her memory in their own way—through music, laughter, a Lucky beer, and a dance in her spirit.
Dancing queen wild and free may you rest peacefully.
